How to Use Grade Calculator

The Grade Calculator is a free, premium web utility designed to simplify your calculation tasks. To use this online tool: 1. Choose your mode: Weighted, Points, or Final Exam Goal. 2. For Weighted mode, enter each category name, your grade, and its weight. The tool automatically normalizes weights if they do not sum to 100%. 3. For Points mode, enter points earned and max points for each assignment. 4. For Final Exam Goal, enter your current grade, target grade, and the final exam's weight to calculate the required score. 5. Click 'Calculate Grade' to see your result.

Grade Calculator Formula / How It Works

The tool uses client-side JavaScript to perform calculations instantly inside your browser. For weighted grades, it calculates the sum of all weighted scores divided by total weights. For point-based grades, it divides total earned points by total max points. For final exam planning, it back-calculates the required final score to achieve the target class grade based on the relative weights.

Formula:Weighted Grade: Overall = Σ(Grade × Weight) / Σ(Weight); Point-Based: Overall = (Σ Points Earned / Σ Max Points) × 100
Example Calculation:

For example, in weighted mode, if your Homework grade is 90% (weighted at 30%) and your Exams grade is 80% (weighted at 70%), the tool computes: (90 × 30 + 80 × 70) / 100 = 83.00% (B-).

Frequently Asked Questions

A weighted grade calculator multiplies each category's grade by its weight, sums those products, then divides by the total weight. For example, if Homework is worth 30% and you scored 90%, and Exams are worth 70% and you scored 80%, your overall grade is (90×30 + 80×70) / 100 = 83%.

That's fine — our calculator normalizes your weights automatically. If you enter weights that sum to 60%, the tool divides by 60 instead of 100, giving you an accurate weighted average based on the categories you've entered. A note will appear below your result explaining this.

Enter your current overall grade, the grade you want to finish the course with, and what percentage of your final grade the exam is worth. The calculator uses the formula: Required Score = (Target − Current × (1 − Weight/100)) ÷ (Weight/100).

Standard grading assigns letter grades in whole steps: A is 90–100%, B is 80–89%, and so on. Plus/minus grading adds finer distinctions — for example a B+ covers 87–89.9% while a B covers 83–86.9% and a B- covers 80–82.9%.
